While we in the US are still focused on motherhood, this important piece from ProPublica and NPR sheds light on the fact that maternal mortality in the US is on the rise, significantly, while it falls in all other developed and many developing countries. Lauren Bloomstein, a neonatal nurse (married to a doctor), died in her own New Jersey hospital just hours after giving birth to her first child. Her death was preventable.
