Handmade in Uzbekistan
Fine handwoven ikat in a long and wide silhouette that allows you to show it off. This bag is like wearing a gorgeous scarf, except it is actually useful! The fabric is strong and durable - holding up perfectly in trips to the grocery store and use as an extra carryall for shoes and even a laptop - and has even weathered the rain without a mark. Folds up to a small flat square when not in use. Each bag has its own unique pattern and personality. A perfect holiday gift for any lover of textiles or handmade luxury.
The textile was handwoven by women weavers in the Fergana Valley, the traditional heartland of ikat weaving in Uzbekistan. The bag was assembled in a workshop run by two sisters in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Each bag provided 4 days of fair work to women. The sale of each bag will provide 5 days of life skills mentoring for adolescent indigenous Mayan girls through our 2014 NGO partner, Redmi. Learn more.
